Emilio Pucci. Winning.

No question about it, my favourite collection from Spring 2011 would have to be Emilio Pucci's ready-to-wear line. Under the creative direction of Peter Dundas, the Florentine fashion powerhouse sent hit after hit down the runway in a seventies-infected mixup that channelled the Mediterranean in a sultry palette of sea blue and spice, and nod to French belle époque tailoring and detail, or as the designer aptly describes 'bohemian beachcomber done luxe'.

Soft flounced white cottons and t-shirt jersey gowns in archival Pucci prints contrast structured lines of guipure lace, broderie anglaise embroidery and leather lacing. The low-slung flares and open blouses are particularly reminiscent of the seventies rock regalia worn so well by the likes of Morrison and Richards back in their heyday, and that crocheted ivory maxi deserves a notable mention just for being that cool.

By style.com's admission, Dundas is hardly driving anything new as the seventies continues to provide endless source of inspiration across the board this season, but his conviction is something to be congratulated.
