new york's best

How much is New York having a moment right now? Almost every one I know wants to pay The Big Apple a visit, me included. Which brings me to the reason for this post - chef Shannon Bennett of Vue de Monde notoriety has just released a book: Shannon Bennett's New York: A Personal Guide to the City's Best. It's a great read, one that I keep flicking through again and again and again. Could be all the talk of food, I'm not sure. But it makes the thought of my next NYC trip all the more exciting. And tasty.

Top hotels & restaurants according to Bennett:

Top hotels:
"These are my fantasy hotels, where I go for a once-in-a-lifetime experience for one or two nights, rather than where I stay every time I am in New York. They embody everything New York is about."
1. The Greenwich Hotel (TriBeCa)
2. The Surrey (Upper East Side)
3. The Bowery Hotel (East Village)
4. The Standard (Meatpacking District)
5. Crosby Street Hotel (SoHo)

Most exciting New York restaurants:
1. Corton (Paul Liebrandt)
2. Le Bernardin (Eric Ripert)
3. Per Se (Thomas Keller)
4. The Spotted Pig (April Bloomfield)
5. Masa (Masa Takayama)
